BOILER REFRACTORY MATERIAL AND THERE REQUIREMENTS:-
in this article we discussed about boiler refractory and refractory material and there requirement . refractory material can be any material, which can withstand the action of abrasive or corrosive solids, liquids or gases at high temperatures are called ‘refractory’ material .The section of refractory material is depending upon the different characteristics for the construction of a furnace . now these days firebrick is the most common refractory material used at a large scale in the construction of small furnaces. we can also use other type of refractories for furnace construction they are high alumina brick, silica brick, magnesite brick, chromite brick, zirconia brick, monolithic etc.
Characteristics of a good refractory material are:-
- Ability to withstand action of molten metal slag, glass, hot gases etc.
- Ability to withstand load and abrasive forces
- Low coefficient of thermal expansion
- Should be able to conserve heat
- Should not contaminate the material with which it comes into contact
- Area of application
- Working temperatures
- Extent of abrasion and impact
- Structural load of the furnace
- Stress due to temperature gradient in the structures and temperatures fluctuations
- Chemical compatibility with the furnace environment
- Heat transfer and fuel conservation
- Cost considerations
Selection of Refractories
The selection of refractories for a furnace or any particular application is depending upon view to achieve the best performance of the furnace, and depends on certain properties of the refractories which is consider during refractories material making . Now these days Firebrick is a common form of refractory material used at a large scale in the construction of small furnaces? Other refractories, which are used in furnace construction, are high alumina brick, silica brick, magnesite brick, chromite brick, zirconia brick, monolithic etc.
When a designer design the furnace he should clear idea about the service conditions, which the refractory is required to face. These are the following points when furnace designers select the good refectories materials.
1) Area of application
2) Working temperatures
3) Extent of abrasion and impact
4) Structural load of the furnace
5) Stress due to temperature gradient in the structures and temperatures fluctuations
6) Chemical compatibility with the furnace environment
7) Heat transfer and fuel conservation
8) Cost consideration
Now these days selection of refractories for a furnace or any particular application is depending upon view to achieve the best performance of the furnace, and depends on certain properties of the refractories which is consider during refractories material making like the equipment furnace, kiln or boiler and depends on their properties. the choice of a refractory material is also depending upon a given application will be determined by the type of furnace or heating unit and the most common conditions e.g. the gaseous atmosphere, the presence of slags, the type metal charges etc. it is, therefore, clear that temperature is by no means the only criterion for selection of refractories.
